A Word of the Lord: To the preachers of the Prosperity Message and those that attend their church.

By Ken Smith 02/19/08

Here in the Atlanta area churches abound... all shapes and sizes. You have mega
churches such as Creflo Dollars, Eddie Longs, Charles Stanley, Jenezen Franklin,
Michael Yusef, Powder Springs Church of God, Mount Paran Church of God, and dozens
more churches that run in the thousands every Sunday morning. Churches between
200-1000 members are a dime a dozen and the small 30-100 churches... too many to
count. Most of them are made up the same. You have the Mercedes crowd and you have
the Pinto crowd. The saddest thing to notice is when you see the Pastor gravitate
towards the money folk.

James 2:1 My brethren, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with
an attitude of personal favoritism.
2 For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine
clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes,
3 and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say,
"You sit here in a good place," and you say to the poor man, "You stand over there,
or sit down by my footstool,"
4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?
5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich
in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and
personally drag you into court?
7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?
8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law, according to the Scripture, "YOU
SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF," you are doing well.
9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as
transgressors.

These pastor's know they show partiality to the wealthy and they do so in their
private lives as well as openly in the congregation. I have been around the church
as a preachers kid all of my life. Kids aren't deaf, blind, nor are they stupid. As
I aged and began working on the inner functions in the church it is the same. You
pay more attention to the family with the thickest and deepest wallet. You put up
with times more nonsense from these people and the person that doles out the most
cash when cash is needed... you know what you do. You try and justify it in many
ways... "well, we have to pay the bills" and you are quick to point out, "they don't
oppress me and take me to court so this doesn't apply." Don't they oppress you? Let
me challenge every pastor that might happen onto this article to do something. Stop
paying so much attention to them. Stop paying them homage from the pulpit in front
of the entire congregation. Start having them set up an appointment when they want
to "see the pastor" just as you do the average Joe Schmucky that sits in your pews.
When they pop in and want an audience with you... tell them you are busy as you
would when the person popped in who doesn't have much to add to the church coffers.
Stop automatically making them your deacon and elders. When you can do that... you
will feel that oppression because they are going to stop dropping in those big
checks in the offering place. Here me well... they will stop (the vast majority).
The reason they stop is because they know you are going to realize that money drop
and that drop will force you to stop ignoring them and restart what it is they
really want... public accolades. They can do this because they know the church
business... you have told them every chance you get because you were fishing for the
big offering. They know that if you want to continue operations in the way you have
become used to... you have to have them. So you bet they oppress you because you
have to put up with what you know is wrong in order to pay that huge house payment
many of you have... not to mention the car note because that car isn't paid for yet.
Pastor's have gotten too fond of the salaries and you can keep that salary large as
long as you can keep Richie Rich happy and in your church. Stop fooling yourself...
you are oppressed by the rich.

Test yourself, you know it is the truth. Don't get defensive and try to justify this
with excuses that you wouldn't buy for a New York second if it was coming from you
kid trying to justify how they got an "F" in Gym class. You smaller church Pastor's
who want to crow because you have no rich in your church so this doesn't apply to
you! Hush crowing... just because you don't have millionaires attending your church
doesn't absolve you from favoritism towards the person that gives 100 dollars tithe
compared to the one that give 5. Stay in context with Jame's passage and get the
whitewash out of your eyes. That 100 dollar giver is going to be your deacon and
elder. Their wives will sing all the specials and they will push all the buttons and
get things done. This will be the person that you go out of your way to make happy.
You say "to the one that has more, more will be given" and I would tell you that it
is great that you know some Scripture. But it is much better to understand it than
just know it. If you are basing things on monetary worth... you are sinning.

Many have bought into the nonsense the likes of Creflo Dollar, Leroy Thompson,
Avansini, Copeland, and those boys teach. They teach you to hang out with the rich
if you want to be rich because if you hang out with poor folks then they are going
to just drag you down. Well if you want to be rich then I suppose that is good
advice. If you want to go to hell... I assure you it is great advice.

James leaves you no way to wiggle out of this. Your doctrine of prosperity is a make
believe gospel which is leading people to hell by the boatload. Many of these dead,
and dying, preachers are paving the way to hell with the flesh feeding doctrine of
wealth. You preachers were prophesied about in Ezekiel.

Ezekiel 34:2 "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say
to those shepherds, `Thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe, shepherds of Israel who have been
feeding themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flock?
3 "You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat sheep
without feeding the flock.
4 "Those who are sickly you have not strengthened, the diseased you have not healed,
the broken you have not bound up, the scattered you have not brought back, nor have
you sought for the lost; but with force and with severity you have dominated them.
5 "And they were scattered for lack of a shepherd, and they became food for every
beast of the field and were scattered.
6 "My flock wandered through all the mountains and on every high hill, and My flock
was scattered over all the surface of the earth; and there was no one to search or
seek for them."´"

You think that your full church proves this wrong? Your large and fancy church is
nothing more than a trap, beckoning the sheep in with the promise of peace and
prosperity. Your worldly lures seem like beautiful green grass and your programs
like crystal clear drinking ponds with an endless supply of water. Your music plays
like a well practiced orchestra and your musicians picked from the most gifted. Your
message is mesmerizing as you speak of wealth, happiness, peace, health and absolute
heaven while hear on earth. They sit, lulled into spiritual sleep while you cut the
wool off their backs. Your words are like finely sharpened sheers moving back and
forth with such easy strokes that many of the sheep actually enjoy giving it up to
you. You prove it as you thrust your back up to them like a dog in her mating ways.
In time... you will make them twice the son of hell you are. They will eat up all of
your grass and drink all the water. They will trod down the skinnier sheep, muddying
up what water is left at the bottom of the pond. Those skinny sheep will wander off
in time only to be replaced by another skinny sheep who is wandering around looking
for Eden on this earth. There are so many coming and going that you shepherds don't
even have a clue when someone is missing any more. Sad part is... you don't care as
long as the field remains full. One day you will understand something and I hope you
understand before that final day... every sheep that comes through your door is
numbered and the master... He knows. Their blood will be on your hand.

You tell the sheep that God wants them to follow your teaching on getting rich but
you ignore what James says.

James 4:13 śCome now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow, we shall go to such and such
a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit."
14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor
that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
15 Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and also do this or
that."

Teach them this instead. Stop using the Scripture, twisting it into the dollar
symbol so you can live on this earth in luxury as you indulge yourself in the fine
things the world has to offer. Your hearts are fat for the day of slaughter. People
come to you needing and your coffers are full and overflowing and yet you give them
only a handful so they can get through a day or two and then don't allow them to
pull from those coffers for another six months. Then you boast about how much you do
in the name of God? You preach a God of unlimited favor and goods and you show your
hypocrisy because you limit the favor shown and the goods given. You are no longer a
part of the body of Christ... you have been severed off. You make a mockery of the
blood of Jesus by ignoring why Jesus died. He did not call you to preach the gospel
so that you could live in big house with the big cars and Jewelry all the while your
sheep are scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to survive. You preach telling
people to give yet you really have no concept of biblical giving. If you did then
you would weep in shame, then repent and resign so you could get alone with God for
a while and get your head back on straight... but in truth... you don't even blush.
You twist and tweak the Scripture for your dishonest gain ignoring the fact that
Scripture teaches us that all of the promises to Abraham were fulfilled in Christ.
You place monetary value over the work of Christ and that will be your demise.

TO THE CHURCH
You want to obey God when you give? Then stop giving to these multi-million dollar
ministries where the preachers and their staff are traveling the world living the
life of a king all under the guise of "spreading the gospel." The only thing being
spread is their bank accounts and spread sheets.

Instead... give your money to the church that is out there scraping and scrounging
for enough food to take care of their shelters. Give to the minister that is out
there on the streets busting their behind trying to pull one more soul from the
grips of hell. Give to groups like Teen Challenge who do great work but are always
running short of operating capitol. There are great works out there who follow the
biblical injunctions to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those who are sick
and in prison. Stop listening to the lies of hirelings and find a true shepherd.
They are out there although the numbers are reducing every day that passes us by.
